Feels Like Us - Behind the Dance

Hey! Thought you might like to get behind the scenes and have a little back story of the music video for ‘Feels Like Us’…

We were trying to figure out a unique way to represent ‘Feels Like Us’ in video form with Bruce from Tribal Apes. Kyle and I had loads of outrageous ideas on what we could do… cake fight, jelly wrestling, sky diving… it felt like the world was our oyster!

Bruce came up with the idea to get some professional dancers in a grand hall. Like Ed Sheeran’s awesome clip for thinking out loud. I love that clip so I was keen! However, with all the covid and lockdowns it was increasing difficult to line up the perfect dancers.

Bruce asked have you got any special skills like juggling or fire twirling or dancing?’. A little light went off in my head and I immediately decided the dancers would have to be Kyle and I.

Of course, when I bought the idea up to Kyle his first reaction was ‘No, I don’t have time…’

But as they say, water wears away the stone. I pestered and I persuaded and finally he agreed to this hair-brained idea.

Both of us love a dance when the occasion calls for it. However, prior to the idea of this video neither of us had any formal dance experience.

We hooked up with dance teacher extraordinaire Rebecca Ross and together we developed a fully choreographed dance routine that told the story of the song through movement.

It was a fun process and we were also very nervous. We both like to be good at what we do, so it was really hard to be vulnerable and dance in front of a camera when we were feeling like we needed a lot more practice.

Anyways, I made a little video blog to show a bit of behind the scenes of us practicing. What a journey!
